Wood V BAR X Opening Day Bull Sale Report 2012

It was Thursday March 15, the day before the sale. A huge Pacific storm front had moved inland and engulfed most of the state of Washington, North Idaho and Western Montana in snow and rain that would set new records for precipitation. Over an inch of rain fell in Spokane in less than 1.1/2 hours. Snow packs in the mountains received over 3 feet of snow through the 18 hour storm.

By Friday morning the rain had cleared at the ranch and we were able to move the Bulls to the sale barn and sort for pens. A light rain began to fall about 9:30 am. It was relatively warm with no wind and the rain gave way to clear skies, and sun breaks through the mid day lunch and afternoon sale. As the last bull sold a Hugh thunder clap erupted to end the weather event.

Inspite of all the nasty weather, folks from all over the Northwest found their way to the Opening Day Bull Sale Event. The bulls were sorted in small groups in large 24×32’ pens for easy viewing which enabled buyers to move the bulls around to see them travel.

A delicious BBQ Beef lunch with all the fixings’ was served at noon while folks warmed up around the large heaters with coffee and coco

The Sale began at 1:00 and bidding was very active on the front end lots and lasted through most of the Sale.

We thought the opening day sale went very well for just the 2nd year. There was a great croud!! Over 100 seated in the bleachers, well attended lunch, and I believe 21 bidder numbers were given out.

The top selling lot was 937 a 2 yr old son of Lorenzen Golden Era. He sold for $4250 going to Gorden Strandburg from Republic Wa. Next was lot 040 a son of Laso Cool Dude 110x, selling for $4000 to Albertsons’ A bar T Ranch on lower Gold Creek here in Sandpoint. Next was 055 a Wood Optima 604 son selling for $2800 to Bret Brash of Cheney, WA. Several more Bulls sold in the $2700 range which were mostly heifer bulls.
We will continue to offer the remainder of the bulls at private treaty first come first serve.

We would like to thank all who came and participated in the sale and also the good friends neighbors and family who helped with the sale, sorting the bulls, and the wonderful lunch.

Wood V BAR X Opening Day Bull Sale Report 2010

It was a beautiful sunny day and the Bulls looked good. We had freshly cleaned and resurfaced the pens and also built three new pens to allow more room and comfort for both the bulls and the buyers. We had a wonderful BBQ Beef lunch with all the fixins and plenty of hot coffee or cold beverages which ever you preferred and all the pie you could eat.

After lunch we started the sale with the 2 yr olds in catalog order as Leonard took bids from the buyers seated in the straw bales that Ben had arranged perfectly as bleachers, and from the phone. The high selling 2 yr old bull was WOOD BIG LITTLE 850 to Smith Land and Cattle of Fort Garland Co. for $3200. After the 2 yr olds were sold we went to the yearling calving ease bulls, led off by #944 V BAR X LITTLE WOODY, a 70lb April 4th calved bull sired by Wood Optima 604 and out of a Logan bred cow line with loads of style and muscle and the numbers to go with it. He also sold to Smith Land and Cattle from Ft Garland Co. for $3100.

The remainder of the calving ease bulls sold in catalog order, followed by the yearling growth bulls. At the end of the day we had sold 21 bulls at an average price of $1833.00. We felt very blessed that we had such a good turn out with lots of interest and good weather to boot. The bulls sold consistent and we felt they were affordable.

We will continue to offer the remainder of the bulls at private treaty first come first serve.

We would like to thank all who came and participated in the sale and also the good friends neighbors and family who helped with the sale, sorting the bulls, and the wonderful lunch.

Bull Sale Average: $1833
